Nageswar Jyotirling In Darukavanam

Situated on the course between Dwarka city and bet Dwarka Island on the shoreline of Saurashtra in Gujarat is this critical Lord Shiva Temple. It is cherished by one of the 12 swayambhu (self-existent) jyothirlingas on the planet, in an underground sanctum. A 25 m tall statue of a sitting Lord Shiva and a vast greenery enclosure with a lake are real attractions of this fairly peaceful spot. Some archeological unearthing claim five prior urban communities at the site.

Nageshwar was accepted to be known as 'Darukavana', which is an old epic name of a timber-land in India. The following are two surely understood legends connected to this enchanted sanctuary:

As indicated by the principal legend, 'Balakhilyas', a gathering of smaller person sages adored Lord Shiva in Darukavana for long a period. To test their commitment and persistence, Shiva came to them as a bare austere wearing just nagas [serpants] on his body. Spouses of sages got pulled in to the holy person and followed him, abandoning their husbands. Sages got exceptionally aggravated and offended by this.

They lost their understanding and reviled the self-denying to free his linga [one of the restricted implications is Phallus, however it has a more profound mystical symbolism]. Shiva linga fell on the earth and the entire world trembled. Ruler Brahma and Lord Vishnu came to Lord Shiva, asking for him to spare the earth from demolition and take back his linga. Shiva reassured them and took back his linga. [From Vamana Purana CH.6th and 45th]. Ruler Shiva guaranteed his awesome nearness in Darukavana as "jyothirlinga" for ever.

Another story goes several years prior in the Shiv Purana, around an evil presence couple named Daruka and Daruki, after whom was named Daruka Van (woodland), later known as Dwarka. Daruki was an enthusiast of Parvati and was honored by her. He abused her endowments and tryranized the nearby people. One day he caught a Shiva enthusiast called Supriya who was one of the pioneers on a watercraft. The devil detained her alongside a few others at his capital Darukavana.

Supriya exhorted all detainees to discuss the Shiva mantra 'Aum Namaha Shivayay' to secure them. At the point when Daruka came to think about this he hurried to slaughter Supriya. Quickly Lord Shiva showed up as a jyothirlinga from the earth. He couldn't slaughter the evil spirit who was honored by his own particular spouse, Parvati, however he guaranteed Supriya that he would secure him as a linga. The linga here therefore came to be respected.
